Sabrina Carpenter shone so bright at the VMA Afterparty on Sunday night.
The 26-year-old singer had nine nominations heading into MTV's Video Music Awards this past weekend, taking home Best Album for her 2024 album Short N' Sweet and Best Visual Effects for the music video for the lead single, "Manchild", from her latest album, Man's Best Friend.
Carpenter also used her performance of "Tears," the second track on Man’s Best Friend, to make a powerful political statement. Her set featured backup dancers in drag from the reality series Drag Race, alongside other performers dressed as police officers. Signs on the stage carried messages like "In Trans We Trust" and "Protect Trans Rights," highlighting the singer's support for the LGBTQ+ community. The performance comes at a critical moment, as members of the trans community voice growing concerns over state and national efforts to restrict gender-affirming care.
She took the stage for her performance in an embellished fringe top and matching miniskirt, nodding to a 2001 Britney Spears look from her Dream Within a Dream Tour. Earlier in the evening, Carpenter stunned the red carpet in a red custom Valentino gown and a lavender boa.
The iconic looks didn’t stop there. After the award show, the "Espresso" singer teamed up with Amazon Music to host a VMA afterparty, reimagined with a Gen Z twist on the legendary 1970s nightclub, Studio 54, at Refuge NYC in Brooklyn. The VMAs took place in the UBS Arena in Long Island.
Carpenter stunned in a pink, blue and black Bob Mackie vintage bodysuit dress. Mackie originally created the dress for Cher's The Cher Show performance with Tina Turner in 1975. The singer accessorized the look with a pair of silver high heels and silver hoop earrings, and was styled by Jared Ellner. Makeup was done by Carolina Gonzalez while hair was styled by Austin Weber.
On Tuesday, the singer posted multiple photos from the afterparty, featuring her celebrity friends Clairo, Doja Cat, PinkPantheress, Lola Tung, Girl Meets World co-star Corey Fogelmanis, Tate McRae, Cara Delevingne, Emma Chamberlain and many drag queens from her "Tears" performance, with the caption "Sabrina 54."
Gonzalez, her makeup artist for her VMA looks, also posted photos to her Instagram.
