Ultra-Rare Jimi Hendrix Tracks Receive First Release Almost 60 Years After Original Recording

It's been nearly six decades since Jimi Hendrix recorded his now classic 1967 album, Axis: Bold as Love, with the project's critical reputation only continuing to grow more favorable over time.

More recently, with the album's 60th anniversary looming on the horizon, Ultimate Classic Rock has confirmed that a brand-new version of Axis: Bold as Love will soon be available for fans of Hendrix's work, complete with previously unreleased tracks from the album's earliest production.

The remastered album, which will span a total of four CDs, will specifically include bonus material from Axis: Bold as Love's original recording, including outtakes, demos, alternate tracks and live recordings collected from the album's 1967 production.

Of the 40 bonus tracks that will be featured on the album, a whopping 28 of them will see their first ever release to the general public.

Interestingly, the new remastered album will also feature a drawing made by Hendrix when he was just five-years-old, generously selected for the new remaster by the musician's sister, Janie.

"I thought it was perfect for this project," Janie said in a press release for the upcoming Bold as Love. "It's a colorful dragon that depicts exactly what the song 'Bold as Love' is talking about — the empowerment of each color of the rainbow. I don't believe there could be a better reflection of the message in the song."

Originally released on December 1, 1967, Axis: Bold as Love marked the second studio album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience following Are You Experienced.

Like the band's debut album, Axis: Bold as Love was met with massive critical and commercial success, further cementing Hendrix's place in the mainstream rock genre by the late 1960s.

Among the many influential songs on the album, Axis: Bold as Love specifically featured such classic Hendrix hits as "Little Wing," "Up From the Skies" and "Spanish Castle Magic."
