Former LSU and current Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback Walker Howard is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 season to repair a serious oblique injury suffered in a loss to Rice on Aug. 30, per Louisiana Sports. Howard underwent surgery this past Friday.
Howard was injured on a fourth-down run in the fourth quarter of their game against Rice. He was able to return for one play, in which he completed a 25-yard pass, but was unable to continue after that one play.
Howard originally signed with LSU in 2022 as the No. 5 quarterback in the country. He only spent one season with the Tigers before transferring to Ole Miss to be under Lane Kiffin‘s system. He spent two seasons with the Rebels before transferring to UL. This is Howard’s first season with the Ragin’ Cajuns.
The Ragin’ Cajuns and Howard struggled against Rice. Howard was 10 of 22 for 88 yards and an interception before he left the game. Backup quarterback Daniel Beale came in and completed 0 of his 6 passing attempts. Rice went on to win 14-12.
Howard will still have another year of eligibility, as he was a redshirt junior this year. UL’s next game is against the No. 25 Missouri Tigers on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
