Keanu Reeves Was Babysat by ‘70s Shock-Rock Icon, 77

Hollywood may feel like a big, vast place to an outsider, but the truth is, it functions like a small town. Everybody somehow knows everyone else, and even the most unlikely, seemingly unrelated stars tend to have a surprising connection.

Recently, ’70s shock rocker Alice Cooper, 77, reminded everyone of this when his social media account resurfaced the fact that he once babysat none other than Keanu Reeves.

The video spliced together two interviews where each star recalled the story. First, Reeves appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Fallon asked if he remembered being babysat by Cooper as a child.

"I grew up in Toronto, and I lived on the street called Hazelton," Reeves recalled. "And there was a recording studio there called Nimbus 9. And my mother was in costume designing. She was in rock and roll in the business. And they had friends and she had friends. And so Alice Cooper, uh, I'm told, babysat me."

    Cooper’s memory was even clearer.

“We had a studio that I was recording in, and I was staying at the house across the street. There was this little boy named Kee whose mom was still working, so I said I’d take him to the studio. He’d play with the cat and do all the little kid stuff. I didn’t find out until later on that it was Keanu Reeves—little Kee," Cooper reminisced.

Fans of both the actor and the rock star loved the story.

"That explains his love of music," one fan quipped about Reeves.

"Alice Cooper and his wife are incredibly good people," vouched another. "I worked with them backstage and they were so gracious and sweet. Loved them!"

Turns out Cooper is a "Mr. Nice Guy" after all.

How Alice Cooper Found Himself in Toronto During the ’70s

Cooper, whose real name is Vincent Furnier, is famously from Detroit, Michigan, but spent significant time in Toronto working with Pink Floyd and Kiss producer Bob Ezrin. The two first met when Ezrin caught an Alice Cooper performance at New York’s legendary Max’s Kansas City.

At the time, Ezrin was based in Toronto and convinced the band to record their Love It to Death (1971) LP at Nimbus 9 Studios—the very place Cooper would meet young Keanu Reeves. Ezrin also went on to produce Killer (1971), School’s Out (1972), and Billion Dollar Babies (1973) for the group.

Cooper once toldClassic Rock magazine:"Bob and I are the only two that really know Alice. When we're writing or listening back to a song, we may look at each other and go, 'Alice would never say that.'"
