VICTOR, N.Y. — The Town of Victor held a public informational meeting on the creation of a new fire protection district. “I always thought during my tenure here would be the pandemic was the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced,” Marren said. “This was the biggest challenge, no question about it. When we went through the pandemic, everyone was going through the same thing. Has anyone else ever gone through this? It’s been extremely hard.”
The meeting covered the short-term plan for continued fire and EMS coverage, which includes Victor Fire District and Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department expanding their coverage area to include portions of what will be the new district; and five agencies (including Farmington and Henrietta firefighters as well as Victor and Bushnell’s Basin) providing coverage to the Thruway and Route 490. The town of Victor is to enter into fire protection agreements with all parties by mid-September, and will create a separate fire protection budget for the costs of providing fire and EMS services to the newly formed fire district.
“This regional model will allow us to draw upon a wider pool of trained personnel, apparatus, and specialized resources, ensuring that the closest and most capable unit responds to each emergency — regardless of municipal boundaries,” the short-term plan, posted on the Victor town website, reads in part.
The Fishers Fire District is set to officially dissolve on Oct. 1, after last month’s unanimous vote by Fishers’ fire commissioners.
