Mrs. Helen Chambers Hood-Broxson of Saint Augustine, Florida died at the age of 87 at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday morning August 26, 2025 at the Baptist South Community Hospice in Jacksonville in Duval County, Florida.

She was at the Craig Funeral Home in Saint Augustine and the funeral in Florida was conducted on Saturday September 6th at her beloved First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m.

    Mrs. Hood-Broxson was then forwarded on Monday September 8th to the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral home for graveside services and interment on Tuesday afternoon September 9th beside her husband, Edward, in the Garden of the Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

    The family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage only on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until departing for the Gardens at 12:45 p.m.

    She was one of nine children, five daughters and four sons of the late Wesley Carthell Chambers who died at the age of 85 on January 28, 1998 and Vernie Doris Hackett Chambers who died at the age of 86 on October 9, 2006 and was born Helen Louise Chambers in the Monoville Community on December 28, 1937.

    A son, Claude Wayne Tucker, preceded her in death in Alabama on January 5, 2018 at the age of 59.

    Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert Douglas (Doug) Chambers who died November 2, 2009 at the age of 63 and Bill Chambers who died November 22, 2022 at the age of 81.

    She was united in marriage to St. Johns, Florida native Edward Gray Hood Jr. on January 27, 1968 and he preceded her in death at the age of 63 on October 10, 2001 following thirty-seven years of marriage.

    On May 18, 2021 she was married to Riverside, Florida native Hinton Broxson.

    Mrs. Hood-Broxson began a long career with the Wal-Mart Corporation on August 7, 1984 and that is where she retired from.

    Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Daina Hood Dean and Edie Kurtz of Jacksonville, Teresa (Sissie) Tucker Howard and husband Austin of McKinney, Texas; son, Bobby Joe Day and wife Susan of White House, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Penny Tucker Bales of Srerrett, Alabama; six grandchildren, Michael Tucker, Allen Howard and wife Elizabeth, Renea Tucker Springer and husband Cody, Magnolia Brandon Dean, Emily Santinho, Bryan Dean, Bobby Hartsell, Step-grandson, Taylor Broxson; three great-grandchildren, Bryant Howard, Marcus Howard, and Colton Springer; four sisters, Carol Bousquet & husband Steve of Laughlin, Nevada, Geraldine Vance and husband Jim Cookeville, Linda Reid of Nashville, Jean Goney of Cookeville; two brothers, Raymond Chambers of Gentry and Harold Chambers and wife Betty of Cookeville, several nieces and nephews in addition to many beloved and close friends.
