Pusey, 31, finished top of the table above Raymond Smith to qualify for a chance at the £1million jackpot.

He boasts the riskiest nickname at the oche as he goes by ‘The Magnet’ when competing.

This is because when the Australians’ name is read out at Alexandra Palace, it would be said by MC John McDonald as “Time ‘the Magnet’ Pusey”.

Fans have reacted to his qualification and suggested that he may have to change his nickname before his debut.

One posted: “Odds on him being forced to change his nickname before the worlds like Owen Bates did?”

A second wrote: “PDC enter blind panic over his nickname….”

A third commented: “Here comes the jokes.”

A fourth said: “Can bet your life they’ll make him change his nickname.”

Another added: “They’ll probably make him drop the nickname like they did for Owen ‘The Master’ Bates because the PDC hates fun.”

It would not be the first time a player has been forced into a nickname change.

World No80 Owen Bates previously had a risky nickname of ‘The Master’.

Bates, 22, however, had to drop it after it was banned by the PDC for being too rude.

It came as he qualified for the World Darts Championship in 2023.

He was knocked out of the competition in the first round by Steve Lennon.

Speaking at the time, he said: “I’ve obviously got to change my nickname. It’s such a difficult choice because they can be so iconic.

“But I guess no one will ever forget my first nickname!

“There have been so many great nicknames down the years like The Power, Jackpot, Snakebite and Iceman.”

Since then, it has not been confirmed if he has picked a new nickname.

SunSport have contacted the PDC for comment.

Littler will go into the tournament in December as the reigning champion after his heroics against Michael van Gerwen in January.

The biggest few weeks of the darts calendar are set to start on December 11 and will run until the final on January 3.
