Inactives for tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will not be announced until 90 minutes before kickoff. But while we play the waiting game, there are two notable injury updates worth sharing.
Kyler Gordon is a late addition to Bears injury report

(Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)The Chicago Bears announced on Sunday (via Twitter/X) that cornerback Kyler Gordon was being added to the injury report because of a hamstring injury. Leg issues for cornerbacks are problematic on their own. But when you consider that this team is already dealing with the uncertainty surrounding Jaylon Johnson’s injury status, the last thing the Bears needed was another injured cornerback.
Kyler Gordon is a key piece of the Bears’ defensive puzzle. One of the top nickel cornerbacks in the game, Gordon is coming off a season in which he set career-highs in games played (15), fumble recoveries (3), total tackles (75), and tackles-for-loss (4). A career year for Gordon helped him land a multi-year extension that makes him one of the highest-paid slot cornerbacks in the NFL. New Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen has big plans for Gordon this year. However, he won’t be able to execute them if Gordin isn’t on the field.
CHICAGO BEARS WEEK 1 INJURY REPORT
My gut feeling tells me that Gordon will play against the Vikings on Monday. A questionable designation equates to him having a 50-50 shot at suiting up on MNF. And that he wasn’t ruled doubtful or out despite being a late add to the injury report is something I find to be encouraging. With that being said, I’ll be holding my breath until the list of inactive players comes out.
On the Vikings side of things, this is also noteworthy:
S Harrison Smith (illness) has been downgraded to out and will not travel with the team. pic.twitter.com/ZU92QFc9rk
— Minnesota Vikings (@Vikings) September 7, 2025Harrison Smith has long been a pain in the behind of the Bears and their fans. The hard-hitting safety is a playmaking wrecking ball of destruction and is someone I do not look forward to seeing when the Vikings defense takes the field. With that in mind, I am curious to see how Minnesota makes up for the absence of a six-time Pro Bowler. Sure, Smith hasn’t been the same player he was when he was at the peak of his powers. But because it felt like he always brought his best against Chicago, I will not miss seeing him on the field on Sunday.
Elsewhere on the Vikings injury report: Zavier Scott and Elijah Williams are OUT. Meanwhile, left tackle Christian Darrisaw is questionable.
