Man accused of pointing gun at people on city’s northeast side

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man, 50, is charged with menacing after Rochester Police say he pointed a gun at people on Sunday night on Bernard and Thomas streets on the city’s northeast side.

News10NBC spotted RPD officers holding long guns around 7 p.m. in that area. RPD Captain Sam Lucyshyn spoke at the scene, saying officers’ quick response ensured that no one was hurt.

“It’s kind of overlooked that it’s part of the job that officers run, in fact, sprint towards danger,” he said. “Day in and day out they do this. And just like every other day, today they heard a report of someone with a gun pointing it at somebody and sprinted right toward the danger, contained it, and hopefully we’re going to bring this to a successful resolution. It’s already safe, but also we’re hoping we’ll be able to provide justice to everyone that was involved in this.”

New York State Police also helped to secure the scene. The area was closed but has since reopened.
