After giving up a bunch of runs (and the lead) in the 9th, Daniel Palencia was still in there throwing gas and trying to finish the 9th when this happened:

It wasn’t immediately clear where he was feeling the apparent discomfort, but Craig Counsell confirmed after the game that it was Palencia’s shoulder:

— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) September 7, 2025That’s bad. Doesn’t mean it will be a season-ending injury, much less a catastrophic one, but “tightness” (which sure looked like pain on the mound) at the back of the shoulder is bad. It makes you worried about what it might be.
That said, not worth speculating until there’s a full battery of tests. At a minimum, it’s pretty hard to imagine him not hitting the Injured List. We’ll find out soon enough whether his season is over, or – please no – whether it’s serious enough to require a procedure. No sense going down that mental road today. The loss was bad enough as it is, and missing Palencia even for a couple weeks would suck. I just don’t want to start worrying about the postseason yet.
