Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the importance of Israel responding positively to the proposed deal to de-escalate the situation, save Palestinian lives, ensure the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, and facilitate the release of hostages and prisoners.
The minister’s remarks came during a phone call with Steve Witkoff, US Special Envoy for the Middle East, as part of their regular consultations on the developments in the Gaza Strip.
The phone call addressed joint efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, based on the elements proposed by the US envoy.
Abdelatty highlighted the rapid deterioration of the catastrophic humanitarian situation, which has now reached the level of famine, condemning the continued use of starvation as a weapon of war.
He warned of the risks and consequences of expanded military operations in Gaza.
The Minister also informed the US envoy of Egypt’s readiness to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction as soon as a ceasefire is declared in line with the Arab-Islamic plan adopted during the Cairo-hosted Arab Summit in March.
Both sides also discussed developments on the Iranian nuclear file, as Abdelatty reviewed efforts and contacts aiming at creating conditions for resuming negotiations.
The Minister underlined the need for narrowing differences and promoting diplomatic solutions to reach a sustainable settlement that respects the interests of all parties.
He also emphasized the important role of such efforts in de-escalation, rebuilding trust, and supporting a stable and secure regional environment in the Middle East.
