A 15-year-old British-born boy who learned to write internet code so he could create websites to spread his belief in the Catholic faith will be elevated to the sainthood on Sunday in Rome by Pope Leo XIV.
Tens of thousands of worshippers are expected to attend the ceremony for Carlo Acutis, who was born in London in 1991 but raised in Italy, The Independent says.
Carlo, who earned the nickname “God’s Influencer”, died of leukemia aged just 15 in 2006, and his mother said earlier this year that the interest in his story came from him being just like every other millennial teenager.

He used to play, have friends, and go to school. But his extraordinary quality was the fact that he opened the door of his heart to Jesus and put Jesus in the first place in his life,” said Antonia Salzano.
As Carlo progressed along the Church’s official path to sainthood, his body was moved to a church in the hill town of Assisi in central Italy, in line with Carlo’s last wishes.
The new saint’s final resting place, where Carlo is entombed with a wax mould of his likeness placed over his body, wearing his track top, jeans and trainers, has become a popular devotional site, attracting thousands of worshippers every day.
The sainthood ceremony for Carlo was scheduled to take place in April, but was postponed after the death of Pope Francis.
It will be the first sainthood ceremony presided over by Pope Leo XIV after his election in May.
At the same time, Leo will also canonise Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian man who was known for helping those in need and died of polio in the 1920s.
