Kiefer Sutherland, the man behind the hit TV character Jack Bauer in the crime drama 24, shared a huge update about a potential revival of the show in a new interview.
Sutherland sat down to chat with radio host Aaron Rand for the show Montreal Now and addressed a question about whether or not he might return to play Bauer again, to which he said, "[24 executive producer and showrunner] Howard Gordon has come up with an idea that I like."
"Before, it was just the material had not been written, so I would have to say, ‘I’m not the one that’s in the way,’" he went on, before declaring of the current status, "Something has been written. I think it’s really good. I think it’s really strong."
The Emmy-winning actor went into more detail about where in the process of development the project is, talking about how 24 switched hands from Fox to Disney when the latter acquired 21st Century Fox, before he said, "So it has to go through different channels before it’s either approved or disapproved."
He added, "It’s something I would really like to do. I would like to close that story. It was left kind of wide open," before concluding, "Fingers crossed. We’ve taken some considerable steps forward."

Sutherland Debuted as Bauer in 24 in 2001
The longtime actor first started playing the character of Bauer in 2001, when 24 premiered with Season 1 on Fox. The original series went on to have nine seasons from 2001 to 2010, and 204 total episodes. The TV movie 24: Redemption starring Sutherland also came out between Seasons 6 and 7.
24 focuses on Sutherland's character, a counter-terrorism federal agent. Each season covers 24 consecutive hours, similar to how the recent hit show The Pitt covers one hour of time in each episode. Along with Sutherland, the main cast includes Mary Lynn Rajskub, Carlos Bernard, Dennis Haysbert, Elisha Cuthbert and more.
After 24's original series finale in 2010, the show returned with the limited series, 24: Live Another Day, in 2014, which had 12 episodes. The show then received a spinoff called 24: Legacy in 2017, which starred Corey Hawkins and aired for one season.
In the years since, there has been talk of other spinoff shows in the franchise, including one possibly focused on a young Bauer, but none have come to fruition.
