Who died in the first season of The Hunting Wives?
There were multiple deaths in Season 1, starting with Abby Jackson. Abby's mother, Starr Jackson, was later killed by Jill Thompson, who was then shot and killed by Callie. In addition to the homicides, Pastor Pete died by suicide after being chased by Deputy Salazar.
In the end, it was Margo who killed Abby that night in the woods, not Jill, as everyone thinks. Margo had gotten pregnant by Brad and had an abortion. Abby found out about the abortion and confronted Margo, who shot her with Sophie's gun.
“Abby was crazy. Okay? She was crazy. She was jealous of me and she threatened to take everything that I’ve built and burn it to the f–king ground,” Margo told Sophie.
Margo also admitted to Sophie that she had planted Abby's phone at Jill's house. "I was the one because I love you," she said. "Sophie, I f–king love you, and I fixed it cause I said I would protect you, and I did."
Is The Hunting Wives based on a book?
The Netflix series is based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, but the two have very different endings. In the book, it was Jill who killed Abby, not Margo, and Margo died in the novel.
Discussing how the author reacted to the changes, Cutter told The Hollywood Reporter, "I had already pitched the show by the time I met her, and had pretty much broken the season. Before I went to Texas to meet her, I was like, 'You don’t have to tell her anything.' Then we became best friends in two seconds. We were at her sister’s house on the lake and I was like, 'Oh, f-ck it. I’m just going to do it.' I was like, 'May, I have to tell you. I kind of know everything that I want to happen, and a lot of it is really different than the book.' She was like, 'I want to hear!' I loosely pitched it to her and she was like, 'It’s brilliant. I love it. Do whatever you want. I wish you’d been there when I was writing the book!' She was so sweet and supportive, and wasn’t precious about it."
Season 1 wrapped with Sophie learning the truth about Margo. Akerman's character, who was kicked out by her husband, Jed, informs her brother, Kyle that Sophie knows she killed Abby and plans to tell the police. While Margo wants to turn herself in, Kyle tells his sister that, because he's involved, she'll have to go through him before she goes to the police.Instead, Margo ends up going to Callie's and tells her that Sophie has an obsession with pregnancy and made it up in her mind that Margo had an abortion. Callie asks if she'd like for her and Johnny to keep her eyes on Sophie. When Margo returns to her brother's place, he's not home. Kyle had gone looking for Sophie. After trying to run her off the road and aggressively banging on her window to talk, Sophie, who had been drinking, runs Kyle over with her car. The Season 1 finale ended with Sophie disposing of his body.

What is the plot of Season 2 of The Hunting Wives?
Cutter teased in an interview with THR that she thinks there would be a "little time jump" in Season 2. Similarly, she spoke about a time jump with Variety, explaining that it would not be "a year, but a time."
"By the end of shooting, I realized that the two engines of the show are the whodunit and the Margo/Sophie relationship, and tracking how those spines intersect with each other,” Cutter said. “The first thing I’m thinking about is, where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.”
She also added that she thinks "it would be smart” to introduce a new murder mystery. Cutter said, “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!”
