GENEVA (SANA) — The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned Friday that childhood in Gaza faces imminent collapse as intensified Israeli military operations deepen hunger, displacement, and the risk of mass casualties among children.
“The world is sounding the alarm about the humanitarian catastrophe that could result from the intensive military attack in Gaza,” said UNICEF spokeswoman Tess Ingram. “Nearly one million people remain trapped inside the Strip.”
Ingram noted that the escalation has stretched on for more than nine days, adding that malnutrition and famine are weakening children’s bodies while bombing and displacement continue to threaten their lives and shelter.
UNICEF reported in mid-July that more than 5,800 Palestinian children were diagnosed with malnutrition in Gaza during June alone, underscoring the scale of the crisis.
Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly appealed for safe access to deliver aid, warning that the combined effects of hunger and violence place children at risk of death and long-term health complications.
