Former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar has reportedly applied for the role of a national selector from the Central Zone. On August 22, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for two positions in the senior men’s selection committee. S Sharath (South Zone) and Shiv Sundar Das (Central Zone), who are a part of the current selection committee, are likely to be replaced.
Praveen Kumar wants to be national selector
As per IANS, sources confirmed that Praveen Kumar had applied for the position from the Central Zone. The former Indian pacer, who made his debut in 2007, has played 6 Tests, 10 T20Is and 68 ODIs in a career that spanned till 2012. Kumar is currently Uttar Pradesh senior men team’s selector. The report also claims that ex-India pacer RP Singh is in the fray to become a national selector as well but hasn’t apllied yet.
“Yes, it is confirmed that Praveen Kumar has applied for being the next national selector from the Central Zone. Now it will be fascinating to see who all put their hand up, with the deadline now just five days away. With the deadline coming close now, you never know if he (RP Singh) may give it a go,” said the sources.
The deadline for applicants is September 10 at 5 PM. The interview process of the selectors takes about two weeks to complete. Earlier, reports stated that former Indian spinner Pragyan Ohja is likely to become a national selector from the south zone.
