Reform ‘conspiracy theorists’ are a danger to the NHS, warns health minister

Voters should be worried about the future of the NHS in the hands of Reform, a health minister has said.

Stephen Kinnock said Nigel Farage’s party “seems to be riddled with conspiracy theorists” after it emerged that Robert F Kennedy Jr’s anti-covid vaccine adviser is addressing Reform’s conference in Birmingham this weekend.

Kinnock told The i Paper that the Labour Government would “take on” the argument from anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists by defending scientific positions on vaccination.

But a Reform source insisted that the NHS would be protected if the party won the general election in 2029.

Dr Aseem Malhotra, who has been accused of spreading misinformation about covid vaccines, is to give a speech entitled “Make Britain Healthy Again”, echoing the “Make America Healthy Again” agenda led by RFK Jr, Donald Trump’s health secretary.

Malhotra was recently appointed by RFK Jr as the chief medical adviser to the “MAHA Institute”.

Kinnock said it was “deeply troubling” that Reform was giving Malhotra a platform.

Asked whether he was concerned about the future of the NHS if Reform were to win the next election, Kinnock said: “Absolutely, yes. I think Reform seems to be riddled with conspiracy theorists.

“I think we need to take it on. We need to use the power of science and research.

“The JCVI [Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation] is a world-renowned organisation. We are very lucky to have it.

“When the JCVI gives the green light to a vaccine, that vaccine is safe — in terms of all of the clinical trials and testing of it demonstrating that it is clearly a highly beneficial thing to do to get that vaccine.

    Reform ahead in the polls

“Of course there are individual cases sometimes where there are particular side effects.

“You cannot hope to eliminate all risk 100 per cent of the time, but if we thought we should eliminate 100 per cent of risk, we would never leave our house in the morning.

“So I’m afraid that there are conspiracy theorists out there. There do seem to be quite a large number of them in the Reform Party, and that is something that we should take on, we should combat the nonsense and the lies that these people peddle.

“We should do it with our arguments and the power of our science and the incredibly impressive people that we have in organisations like the JCVI.”

Reform UK is currently ahead in the polls — leading Labour by a record 15 points according to the latest BMG poll for The i Paper published on Friday. Labour have turned their guns on Nigel Farage’s insurgent party, who they fear has become the main opposition — particularly in ‘Red Wall’ northern seats.

A former NHS cardiologist, Malhotra has claimed that the introduction of covid vaccines had a “catastrophic net negative effect on the population and society” and resulted in more deaths than if they had not been introduced.

But analysis from the UK Health Security Agency has shown that covid vaccines prevented 127,500 deaths in England up to 24 September 2021, while Office for National Statistics data showed 63 deaths involving the vaccines up to July 2023.

A Reform source said: “We are concerned about the future of the country if Labour wins the next election. Reform will always protect the NHS.”
