Freestyler Kenzie Sellars from White River Junction, Vermont, has committed to swim and study at the University of North Carolina, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. She trains year-round with the Upper Valley Aquatic Club and attends Mid Vermont Christian School.
Sellars confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I’m so blessed and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina! Sellars’ biggest meet of this past season was the New England 15-18 Age Group Championships, which were held at the end of February. She swept the sprint freestyle events, going 23.37 and 51.12, with her 50 time just missing her 23.32 best while she matched her 100 mark to the hundredth. She picked up bronze in the 100 fly, going a lifetime best of 56.40, while also touching fourth in the 200 fly with a PB (2:09.26), fifth in the 200 free (1:51.99), and 11th in the 200 IM in a best time of 2:09.05.
The future Tar Heel was pivotal on Upper Valley’s relays at the meet, splitting 23.77 leading off the third-place 200 free relay, 23.14 on the sixth-place mixed 200 free relay, 23.16 on the 200 medley relay, 51.97 leading off the 400 free relay, 25.24 fly on the third-place 200 medley relay, 1:00.98 fly on the seventh-place 400 medley relay, and 1:53.26 leading off the third-place 800 free relay.
Sellars wrapped up her short course season at the Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca at the end of March, where she broke 51 in the 100 free for the first time. She put her hand on the wall in 50.89, which captured ninth place in the process. She also clocked 23.57 in the 50 free 11th, 1:52.10 in 200 free 17th, 57.22 in 100 fly 25th, 2:11.52 50th 200 IM.
In relays, she split 23.40 on the 200 free relay that finished 16th, 51.49 on the 18th-place 400 free relay, 2:00.40 on the 800 free relay that took 18th, 25.08 on the 15th-place 200 medley relay, and 59.52 on the 400 medley relay that nabbed 20th.

50 Freestyle: 23.32 100 Freestyle: 50.89 200 Freestyle: 1:51.83 100 Butterfly: 56.40Under the direction of head coach Mark Gangloff, the Tar Heel women finished six out of 15 teams at the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships.
The conference meet offers ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, and it took times of 22.41, 48.72, 1:46.56, and 52.69 to make the top 24 in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly, respectively.
According to the team’s 2024–25 depth chart, Sellars’ personal best in the 50 free would have ranked her as the ninth-fastest on the team, while her times in the 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly would have situated her 11th, 13th, and 14th.
Sellars joins Defne Tanig, Morgan Farlow, Tiffany Murillo, Nehir Oner, and Catherine Pawlaski in UNC’s 2030 recruiting class.
