On Sept. 4, Prince William and Middleton visited the renovated gardens at the Natural History Museum in London. The Princess of Wales' new 'do was first spotted in photos of the couple riding in their Range Rover near Balmoral in late August. In photos from the event shared via Instagram, many people shared their disapproval of Middleton's hair color. A significant number of commenters also speculated that she might have been wearing a wig.
One pointed out, "Great pics but Catherine looks like she is wearing a wig. Either that or someone got trigger happy with Photoshop."
Another bluntly stated, "Don’t like the new hair color. The darker hair was more flattering."

"I am shocked, horrified, dismayed and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today," the hairdresser began her update. A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it’s armour, defence, confidence and so much more."

In the comments, fellow Instagram users lauded McKnight for speaking out on Middleton's behalf.
One wrote, "Well said Sam, she looks beautiful, shame on those being cruel."
