FAIRPORT, N.Y. – A local Army veteran received a special gift Thursday afternoon. Anthony Henson was presented with a white Honda Civic in Fairport through the “Recycled Rides” program.
The car was provided by the National Auto Body Council (NABC), Hawk Frame and Axle, and Travelers Insurance Company. Henson, who has six children and works two jobs, had been relying on the bus to get to work.
“I feel great, I feel overwhelmed, I’ve never experienced something like this before. It’s a great experience,” said Henson. “I feel overly thankful for everybody who helped and assisted in this.”
According to the NABC website, since the Recycled Rides program inception in 2007, they have presented over 3,500 vehicles to veterans, military families, single mothers, and others in need of reliable transportation.
Henson served in the Army from 2000 to 2003 and has a son currently serving in the military.
