Brookfield Zoo will bid farewell to their furry resident koalas Brumby and Willum this fall and say hello to new animals and immersive exhibits that give patrons a chance to see the zoo’s wildlife up close, according to a recent announcement.
After greeting nearly a million guests since their arrival at the zoo, Brumby and Willum are leaving their abode at the Hamil Family Play Zoo in Brookfield Zoo at the end of October, the zoo said.
Guests entering the Play Zoo will instead be greeted by a new addition to the zoo, smaller anteaters called tamanduas. They will participate in the zoo’s Animal Ambassador program that offers guests the opportunity to learn about the solitary animals up close.

The guided tour will “uncover eerie tales, explore mysterious creators at the Zoo and more” while taking guests through the Zoo’s southwest corridor where some of the oldest building on the grounds are located, the zoo said.
Tickets and additional information on the walking tour are available here.
Plus, the zoo will welcome a new exhibit this fall, offering patrons the opportunity to feed, touch and observe moon jellies up close in the Sea Jelly Lab.
“Brookfield Zoo Chicago is always evolving to bring guests closer to the wonders of wildlife,” said Andrea Rodgers, senior vice president of guest experience & operations. “From meeting ancient moon jellies face-to-face to exploring our historic grounds through a new spooky Walking Tour, this fall is filled with unique ways to connect with nature, discover new stories and create lasting memories.”
The Moon Jelly Encounter is part of an eight-part series of experiences called Wild Connections that offers behind-the-scenes experiences to specialized care for wildlife at the zoo.
Registration for the Moon Jelly Encounter open Sept. 2, and children must be at least 8 years old to attend. More information is available here.
In addition to the Moon Jelly Encounter, the zoo offers a Flamingo Feeding Adventure, Otter Adventure, Penguin Encounter, Penguin Feeding Adventure, Rainforest Aviary Adventure, Shark Feeding Adventure and a Giraffe Feeding Adventure. The Otter Adventure is sold out for 2025.
