PEMBROKE, N.Y. — New York State Police say they have gotten warrants for the camera system on the bus that was involved in a deadly crash on the Thruway in Pembroke.
The crash happened on Aug. 22. The bus went off the road and rolled over, which killed five people and hospitalized at least 47 people.

Troopers told News10NBC that they are “not ruling out the possibility” a loose water bottle is what distracted the driver and resulted in the crash. They say until all evidence is reviewed, no determinations on the cause of the crash will be made.
On Aug. 23, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced they will be conducting a safety investigation alongside law enforcement’s investigation. They are examining several factors that may have contributed to the crash.

State police are working to get other warrants to continue the investigation. The NTSB said they expect to publish a preliminary report sometime this month on the crash.

“The NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation are not ruling out that possibility of a loose water bottle, however until all the evidence, including internal camera footage is reviewed combined with interviews, no determination will be made until that point. Warrants for the cloud based camera system have been made and the BCI are working with the company. This is still an ongoing investigation.”
