Leah Tigert from Toronto, Ontario (Canada), has verbally committed to swim and study at the University of Tennessee beginning in the fall of 2026. At the time of her announcement, she wrote on social media:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee! I want to give a huge thank you to my family, friends, teammates, coach Bill, and previous coaches for their endless help and support. I also want to thank the entire coaching staff at Tennessee for this amazing opportunity! GO VOLS ”
Tigert swims year-round under Bill O’Toole at the Toronto Swim Club and represents Canada internationally. She recently competed at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships 2025 in Otopeni, Romania, where she finished 15th in the 50 free semi-finals (26.01), 11th in the 100 free semi-finals (55.36), 13th in the 200 free prelims (2:01.71), and 20th in the 100 back prelims (1:02.21). She also led off Team Canada’s 800 free relay (2:00.35) and split 54.48 in finals (4th place) on the women’s 400 free relay and 54.97 (5th place) on the mixed 400 free relay.
In June, she won the 13-18 50 free with 25.74 and the 13-18 100 free with 55.30, and she was runner-up (by .02) with 1:59.59 in the 13-18 200 free at Canadian Swimming Trials. She was runner-up to future Lady Vols teammate Madison Kryger in the 100 back, clocking a PB of 1:01.65. Tigert lowered her 100 free time to 54.97 at the Ontario Swimming Championships in July.
Also this summer, Tigert demonstrated her polyvalence with PBs of 33.72/1:14.76/2:39.25 in the breaststrokes, 27.98 in the 50 fly, and 2:16.49 in the 200 IM.

Tigert will join fellow Canadian Madison Kryger and USA swimmers #1 Charlotte Crush, #4 Molly Sweeney, #16 Eliza Wallace, and “Best of the Rest” backstroker Mia Buff in the Tennessee class of 2030.
The Canada-to-Tennessee pipeline has included, in recent years, current junior Regan Rathwell, sophomores Lilly Daley and Ella Jansen, and freshman Thomas Ciprick, as well as recent grads Brooklyn Douthwright, Tanesha Lucoe, Asia Minnes, and Bryden Hattie.
