CUBS LINEUP — The Cubs will try for the sweep tonight against the Braves, facing righty Bryce Elder. And their lineup has a different look to it. A very different look.

So that’s interesting, eh? Nico Hoerner leading off against a righty, and Michael Busch batting second in the absence of Kyle Tucker.
It only gets more interesting from there, with Willi Castro subbing in for Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Carlos Santana getting the start at DH, while Seiya Suzuki plays right field. Hopefully it’s a good chance for these guys to contribute.
If you were curious, Bryce Elder has been a reverse-split guy this year, but is more split-neutral for his career. He hasn’t been particularly good this year in any case, so I don’t see much reason to quarrel with who is starting in this one.

— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) September 3, 2025Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Cade Horton, RHP
Cade Horton looks to continue his dominant second half, and his push toward Rookie of the Year consideration. His ERA in the second half is just 0.86, with a 23.8% K rate against an 8.1% BB rate.
Atlanta Braves: Bryce Elder, RHP
You may vaguely remember Elder as an impressive young pitcher for the Braves, but he’s fallen way off the last couple years: 6.04 ERA over 174.1 innings (a whopping 43% worse than league average by ERA-). He’s coming off really good back-to-back outings against the Mets and Phillies, though, so hopefully he hasn’t figured something out.
