SAN JOSE — A driver was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after police say he hit and killed a man in a wheelchair over the weekend then fled the scene.

(Google)The collision was reported at 2:34 a.m. Sunday near the Magic Sands mobile home community, according to the San Jose Police Department. An initial investigation determined that a man driving a silver 2017 Mercedes-Benz sedan was traveling north on Lily Ann Way approaching Hayes Avenue, when he hit a man in a wheelchair who had been on the far curb of Hayes, then crashed into an iron fence.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he died, police said. His name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
