Jordan Lawlar ends hitless skid in victory over Rangers

PHOENIX — Jordan Lawlar got off the mat to deliver his first two hits in the major leagues this season, and Ketel Marte walloped a go-ahead home run in a 5-3 win for the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.

Reliever Taylor Rashi, back up from Triple-A Reno, delivered a six-out save to lock it down, his second save in as many career appearances.

Lawlar came into the game 0-for-30 in the major leagues this season and 0-for-his-last-36 dating back to his first cup of coffee in 2023.

After an 0-for-2 start to Tuesday’s game, he whacked a double to left-center field 107.9 mph off the bat in the fifth inning. Lawlar held off a first-pitch curveball down and jumped on a fastball.

In his next at-bat, Lawlar laced a line drive single into left field in the seventh inning. He checked off a sweeper away and attacked a sinker over the plate.

Lawlar and outfielder Jorge Barrosa — who snapped an 0-for-12 skid — led off the seventh inning with singles to set the table for Marte.

Marte had homered in his previous three games against Texas, and he led off Tuesday with a double 119.6 mph off the bat, the hardest-hit ball of his career, according to Statcast.

Rangers pitcher Hoby Milner threw Marte a low changeup, and Marte clobbered it 414 feet for his 25th home run of the season.

He became the fourth player in franchise history to hit 25 or more home runs in four seasons wearing the uniform (Luis Gonzalez, Paul Goldschmidt and Christian Walker).

Nabil Crismatt continues to shove for Diamondbacks

Before the late offensive surge, Tuesday’s game was a pitcher’s duel between Arizona’s Nabil Crismatt and Texas southpaw Jacob Latz.

Crismatt continues to give the Diamondbacks quality innings after he signed a minor league deal with the club last month and was selected in place of the injured Anthony DeSclafani.

Crismatt, 30, threw 6.1 innings with two earned runs on Tuesday, and he could have prevented any scoring had a couple dives in the outfield not come up short.

He induced three double plays, keeping the ball consistently on the ground.

Through four appearances with the D-backs, Crismatt has a 2.14 ERA. He’s thrown five or more innings with two or fewer earned runs in all three of his starts. He tossed four scoreless innings in his lone relief appearance.

    Up next for Diamondbacks

The rubber match is Wednesday at 12:40 p.m. MST.

Zac Gallen gets the start for the Diamondbacks (69-71), who will face Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter.
