Grammy-Award Winning Singer, 39, Surprises Fans With Announcement of New Album In Nearly a Decade

It seems like just yesterday that Miguel, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter known for such hits as “Adorn”, “Sure Thing”, and “Sky Walker”, leapt onto the scene as R&B’s latest darling. His smooth as silk vocals that effortlessly move from soft, supple ballads to more upbeat tunes with rock and roll influence made him a standout amongst a group of his peers who, for lack of better words, just couldn’t keep up. Beyond the typical sweaty hypersexualized male R&B singer archetype, Miguel gave us range.

On his 2012 hit “Candles In the Sun”, we see the artist contemplating whether or not we’re alone in this human experience we all share and finally coming to the conclusion that we need each other to make it through. He comes across as someone with intense feelings who only knows how to cope by putting it all into a song. The plight of every artist, though, is that much like I am now, they are defined not by the realities of who they are, but more by what people perceive them to be.

As much as we can glean certain insights about the man behind the music, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly who Miguel Pimentel is. In some respects, he is every bit the classic lover boy R&B stereotype, but in others, he’s deeper and more brooding than his music initially lets on. With such a public-facing persona, it’s hard not to notice that the Miguel of 2017’s War & Leisure has transformed in the nearly 10 years since he’s released an album.

He’s traded his perfectly coifed straightened high-top fade for a messier do that’s less polished and intentionally unintentional. His body has become a canvas for various tattoos—you can catch his quick tour for GQ here—and his personal style has gotten significantly edgier. But while it may seem like we’re just along for the ride as Miguel finds himself without so much as a peep about a new album, the artist has finally broken his silence and announced that a new album is officially on the way.

    Miguel Announces New Album CAOS

After teasing his new album CAOS for the past week in a series of posts on social media, Miguel confirmed that we can expect the 12-track album on Thursday, October 23. While most of the tracklist is under wraps, the new record will feature his previously released song “Always Time” as well as one we haven’t heard yet titled “New Martyrs (Ride 4 U).” Despite the seemingly sudden news, the Grammy-winning entertainer has been teasing the album since as far back as 2023 and more recently at the Roots Picnic in May and various times in posts on social media well before the announcement.

Even with all the breadcrumbs, fans were left stunned, as evidenced by the thousands of all-caps comments under his post. “FINALLY OMG ???,” said one person. “EVERYONE STAY CALM. ITS HAPPENINGGGGG ?,” someone else responded. Outside of collectively losing their minds, a few fans even predicted that this long-awaited album would net the singer an Album of the Year win before it’s even released. So far, there’s no word on what type of vibe we’ll get from the album as a whole, although we can conclude that we’ll get some Spanish on at least one of the songs based on the previous teasers.

Miguel Gives Fans an Excluisve First Listen to CAOS Title Track

So far, there’s no word on what type of vibe we’ll get from the album as a whole, although we can conclude that we’ll get some Spanish on at least one of the songs based on the previous teasers. You can even check out a first listen at the title track, "CAOS" by visiting Miguels website s1c.la. While we can’t exactly be sure what else Miguel has in store for the album will sound like, one thing’s for sure: it’ll be unapologetically Miguel. And after waiting almost 10 years, we couldn’t ask for anything more.
