Despite LSU knocking off Clemson 17-10 in a top 10 Week 1 showdown, Dabo Swinney isn’t echoing the flowery sentiments of others across the college football world regarding his opponent.
While showing respect on the front end, Clemson’s head coach also appears to be downplaying the loss to visiting LSU. Or at the very least, aiming for some psychological motivation for his players. It was a 1-possession game for the entire contest and Swinney believes Clemson could’ve won if a few things broke differently.
“That is a physical group. That is a very smart quarterback and that is a back. So they gon’ be a problem. They’ve got some explosive dudes. It was a hell of a game down to the last play. Right out of the gate,” Swinney said. “It’s like getting the final exam on day 1 of class. They made a 65, we made a 58. Neither one of us were great.”
LSU scored 2 touchdowns in the second half to rally from the 10-3 halftime deficit.
Next up for Clemson is a home game vs. Troy on Sept. 6 (3:30 p.m. ET/ACC Network). LSU hosts Louisiana Tech on Sept 6. at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN+, SEC Network+).
