Kell Brook has been offered mega bucks to make a shock return to the ring.
The 39-year-old hasn’t stepped between the ropes since February 2022, when he dispatched bitter rival Amir Khan inside six rounds.
But according to his long-time trainer, Dominic Ingle, Brook is pondering over a proposal to ditch the glove and fight bare-knuckle.
“Kell Brook called me up the other day… and he’s been offered money to [fight] in bare-knuckle boxing,” Ingle told Boxing King Media.
“Frankie Gavin has done it, Liam Williams might be doing it and James DeGale.”
Ingle’s revelation comes after Brook’s recent admission that he is struggling in retirement.
“It is in me; it’s in my blood; I have done it [boxing] all my life,” Brook told Boxing Scene.
“Boxing is my life, and it is hard to close the door on it.
“You see these fighters, and you begin to think I can beat all these guys.
“It is not about the money. I have enough money. It’s about the challenge.
“It’s about seeing what I have left, and I believe I still have it.
“I believe 100 per cent I can beat all the fighters named today.
The Sheffield boxer hasn’t fought since 2022, when he beat KhanLawrence Lustig/BOXXER“Having two years off… a bit like when [‘Sugar’ Ray] Leonard beat [Marvin] Hagler.
“People will think, ‘I don’t think he has got it anymore. He’s had two years off’, and then I go in and show the masterclass. I want to show I am still The Special One.”
Brook (40-3) enjoyed a fruitful professional boxing career that included a three-year reign as IBF welterweight champion.
However, a strong boxing pedigree doesn’t always pave the way for success in bare-knuckle.
England’s first and only world amateur boxing gold medallist, Frankie Gavin, found this out the hard way when he was knocked out in 52 seconds at BKFC Birmingham in June.
Former WBA super welterweight champion Hannah Rankin also fell to the same fate when she was flattened 20 seconds faster by 3-4 MMA fighter Jessica Borga earlier this year.
BKFCSeveral successful gloved boxers have failed in bare-knuckle, including Gavin[/caption]Other gloved standouts, such as ex-WBA ‘regular’ super welterweight champion Austin Trout, enjoyed a great deal more success.
The tricky southpaw beat Miguel Cotto and fought the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Erislandy Lara, and the Charlo twins, Jermell and Jermall, in the paid ranks, before signing with BKFC.
There, he won the BKFC welterweight title by dethroning the company’s best pound-for-pound fighter, Luis Palomino, in the pinnacle of a so-far perfect 4-0 career.
