Downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Park is back in a party mood and throwing a block party this weekend.
Previously scheduled for the Fourth of July weekend, “Grand Park’s Block Party: Celebrating L.A. Culture & Community,” is now set for Saturday, Sept. 6 with a celebration that will include DJs, art exhibits. food trucks and a nighttime drone show.
“It’s a big fun party,” said Robert Gonzalez, director of Grand Park. “This is also a way for people to be in community and be with people who also love Los Angeles,” he added.

So with that in mind the theme for the Saturday event is celebration of Los Angeles’ roots, resilience and diversity,
“Due to the safety concerns of the ICE raids during the month of July we decided to postpone it and then now we are revamping it as a celebration towards the end of summer and we are focusing on all the things that make Los Angeles great,” he said.
“A lot of the programming we produce at the park is very much community-based and includes what our communities are experiencing at the time. So right now it’s a balance of a celebration but also reflection. It’s about reflecting where we are now as a community,” Gonzalez said.

(Photo by John McCoy, Contributing Photographer)On the roster for the day are DJs curated in partnership with KCRW Summer Nights who will be spinning all sorts of tunes. There will also be cultural elements at the party that will include things like dances, a chalk-drawn map of L.A. ‘s freeway, photo displays of the city and its people or stand on a soapbox to tell their stories.
The Block Party will also offer Rights & Resources Booths, where people can do things like register to vote and talk to legal experts. And it will all culminate with a sky-high drone show.
“We’re going to end the night with a big spectacle,” Gonzalez said.
