Basketball Next Month, Plenty of Training Camp Questions, THT Heading Overseas? And Other Bulls Bullets

We can officially say that the Chicago Bulls play basketball next month. Is that a threat!?

(Hour 1,505 of Josh Giddey Watch …)

As training camp inches closer and closer, I find myself thinking more and more about the questions that must be answered before tip-off in late October. Sure, expectations are pretty darn low for the Chicago Bulls this season, but that doesn’t make the preseason preparation any less important. This is an organization that is still working to establish an identity and improve its culture. A successful training camp goes a long way toward making that happen. So what are some boxes they have to check during the next month and a half? First of all, Josh Giddey has to sign a new deal. That’s the obvious one. The vibes behind the scenes could immediately be off if he shows up playing under his qualifying offer. Assuming that contract does get done, however, the team’s next line of business should be establishing Matas Buzelis’ role early. If the plan is to prioritize his development and uplift him as a ball-handler this season, making that known from the jump is key. Everyone has to be on the same page about Buzelis carrying a bigger workload if it’s going to go smoothly. There will undoubtedly be bumps in the road for the sophomore forward, but clearing those bumps will be a lot easier with everyone in lockstep. The next major component: Who the heck starts at small forward? To be honest, I have zero clue which direction Billy Donovan will go. He finished last season with Kevin Huerter, who played fairly well and returned to form as a knockdown long-range shooter. At the same time, the Bulls just went out of their way to swap Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro. Defense is clearly a priority this season, and an easy argument can be made that Okoro has instantly become the best player on that side of the ball. Will Donovan sacrifice spacing for better two-way play? A three-guard lineup could be another option for the head coach. He hasn’t shied away from doing it before, and the Bulls’ effort to re-sign Tre Jones this summer could have very well been pushed by Donovan. We saw him increasingly rely on the savvy playmaker before he got hurt last season. Lastly, we can not forget about Patrick Williams. He is entering the second year of a fully guaranteed $90.0 million deal. As unproductive as he’s been, it’s hard to imagine the Bulls completely throwing in the towel and moving him to the back of the rotation. Technically, they could try to play him more along the perimeter with Matas Buzelis and see if that sparks any kind of new life. If one thing is for sure, the direction the Bulls go could tell us a lot about their internal goals for this season. Kevin Huerter of the Chicago Bulls – © Kyle Ross-Imagn Images Talen Horton-Tucker is one of only two players who will not return from last season’s roster. The Bulls sent him into free agency after essentially handing Noa Essengue his roster spot. Since then, Tucker has struggled to find a landing spot … until now! According to BasketNews, the 24-year-old is nearing a deal that will send him to the EuroLeague. He will reportedly sign with the reigning champion Fenerbahce Istanbul. To be sure, BasketNews states that it’s still possible Horton-Tucker remains stateside if an NBA opportunity opens up. However, if that does not materialize soon, he will apparently plan to join forces with one of the EuroLeague’s top teams. I have been pretty surprised to see Horton-Tucker sit on the market for so long. While I understand that his career has failed to take off in the way many once hoped, he has been a serviceable bench piece of the past couple of seasons. Heck, he ended up playing a far greater role for the Bulls last season than anyone expected. He appeared in 58 games and came up big as a microwave scorer at times. Horton-Tucker recorded 20 games with 10+ points, which included three 20+ point scoring efforts. You can not help but respect how hard the guy plays, and he is a pretty difficult guy to stop when gaining a full head of steam downhill. If he does end up overseas, I have a feeling he’ll put up crazy numbers and be back in the NBA pretty darn soon. We could be in store for a rare Michael Jordan sighting! The Bulls legend is expected to be at UNC later today for coach Bill Belichick’s debut, per Pete Thamel!

    — Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) September 1, 2025 The Packers are getting plenty of love now that they have landed arguably the best defender in the NFL. Can the Bears put an end to that? As the Cubs gear up for one final divisional push, they have made a handful of late-season roster moves this weekend. Once again, our friends at 4for4 have teamed up with Splash for an NFL Survivor Pool that could net $500,000. Yes, you read that right. The buy-in for the season is only $50, and we’re only a few days away from opening night kick-off. Don’t miss out on a chance at the big bucks!
