Welcome to September! The Chicago Bears play football games that count in the standings ONE WEEK FROM TONIGHT. Are you ready for it?
It’s good to be back. I hope you didn’t miss me. But if you did, that’s cool, too, because I also missed you. Let’s talk football now that I’m back in the saddle after a wonderful visit to Denver, where I knocked Coors Field off my baseball stadium bucket list. USA Today’s Nate Davis shared his 2025 NFL season predictions in August. Unfortunately, it is a disappointing forecast for Chicago’s football team. For what it’s worth, Davis predicts the Bears will win more games than they did last year. But he also envisions another season with double-digit losses:Chicago Bears (7-10): They’re going to have to adapt – to Johnson, their new head coach, who’s changing the culture, scheme and expectations (yet again) after this organization’s disastrous 2024 campaign. And the learning curve is amplified by a schedule that, statistically, is second only to the Giants’ in terms of difficulty. Six of the Bears’ final eight opponents made the playoffs last season.
Some final thoughts on the Micah Parsons trade that have been rattling around my head since Friday…
I don’t love the “it wasn’t the right time” sentiment. You can’t afford to wait for “the right time” to make a move if you are an NFL general manager. The league moves so quickly that your only options are to forcibly create your own window or passively watch on the sidelines while the league passes you by without looking back. Also, the Bears traded for (and extended) a soon-to-be 32-year-old offensive lineman and gave a hefty multi-year deal to a 32-year-old defensive tackle. Those are “win now” moves. So to make those moves *AND* be of the mindset of this not being “the right time” for a Micah Parsons trade are clashing ideologies and borderline hypocritical. In the end, Micah Parsons is going to get his. And he will do so while playing for the Bears’ arch nemesis. That stinks. It won’t make you feel better knowing that he will inevitably get his against your favorite team. With that being said, there isn’t a team that can totally stop Parsons … but you can try to contain him. This concludes the Micah Parsons discourse until further notice.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff had sack rates of 3.77% (2022), 4.72% (2023), and 7.71% (2024) during Ben Johnson’s time as the offensive coordinator in Detroit. Perhaps the first-year Bears head coach will have an idea of how to protect Caleb Williams from the onslaught of pass-rushers the NFC North has to offer. Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16), defensive tackle DJ Reader (98), wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14), running back Jahmyr Gibbs (26) and linebacker Al-Quadin Muhammad (69) celebrate their win against the Bears with a turkey drumstick Thanksgiving Day in Detroit. Mandatory Credit: Kimberly P. Mitchell / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Winning back-to-back division championships has turned Detroit’s football team from the hunter to the hunted. Hence, it makes sense that Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell needed to find a new motivational tool going into this year. Given that he goes into this season having lost his offensive and defensive coordinators to head coaching jobs elsewhere, Campbell sees this fresh start as something that sparks his competitive juices:“It’s not hard for me to find things that can drive you,” Campbell said, via Pro Football Talk. “That’s how I was as a player, that’s how I am as a coach. I’ll pull anything negative because it motivates me. So I would be lying if I said, ‘No, that doesn’t get me going a little bit.’ That’s the next challenge.”
A Minnesota Vikings injury up ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reports the team is optimistic that wide receiver Jalen Nailor will play in the Week 1 opener against the Bears on Monday Night Football. Nailor suffered an injury to his left hand on Aug. 14 during training camp and was deemed to be “week-to-week” by Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell. The team lost free-agent addition Rondale Moore with a season-ending injury and will be without Jordan Addison for the first three games because of a suspension. But Minnesota brought in wideout Adam Thielen via trade last week to help out the receivers’ room, so the cupboard isn’t completely bare. This is pretty wild when you put it that way:The odds of a guy named “Devin Hester Jr” making crazy kick returns and NOT BEING RELATED to Devin Hester had to have been 1,000,000 to 1 t.co/uJLf7Q6tMk
— YP (@YoungPageviews) August 30, 2025 Uni Watch: ESPN reports the Bears and the rest of the NFC North will get “Rivalry” uniforms from Nike in 2026. Please don’t suck. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren signed a two-year contract extension with the team. Warren figures to get more touches in 2025 after watching Najee Harris leave for the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency. The Bears will see Warren and the Steelers in Week 12.CHECK IT OUT: 2025 CHICAGO BEARS SCHEDULE
