Two towns, one team: East Rochester Gananda connects to two towns through Football

EAST ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The East Rochester-Gananda Bombers are looking to build on their success from last year, when they won their second Section V title in four seasons.

“We want to have that opportunity to be there in that final game,” said head coach Tim Rose. “We also understand how difficult that is every year.”

The team faces some challenges this season, as a few key seniors from last year’s championship team are now playing in college. However, the younger players are ready to step up and fill those holes.

“We got younger guys coming in that put in the work to fill those holes and hopefully, you know, be better than those other players,” said senior tackle and linebacker Nick Falso. “Those are my guys. I love those guys. But you know, we always looking for improvement.”

The Bombers’ success comes from their strong bond as a team and their ability to stick together through adversity.

“[We] really won because we were together as a family and we didn’t we didn’t fold. We didn’t break. You know, we are we always stuck together,” said Bryce Panzarella, another senior tight end and linebacker.

The East Rochester-Gananda team is a unique family, bringing together two schools from different counties that are 20 minutes apart. The players have grown up together and formed close friendships despite the distance.

“Ever since coach Rose took over, we had, one game a year at Gananda, and it really makes us feel like a whole, you know, two towns really come together,” said Nick.

Justice Allen, a senior wide receiver and safety, added, “I got guys I can call ten years down the line and they’ll pick up the phone.”

The only time the players from the two schools don’t get along is during basketball season, when they compete against each other.

Coach Rose explained that the players have been together since elementary school, playing flag football and becoming a family.

“They’re becoming brothers to a point, when they get to me, they’ve known each other. They play football together for a very long time,” said Rose.

The East Rochester-Gananda Bombers will open their season on Friday, September 5th against Oakfield-Alabama, hoping to continue their winning tradition.
