The father of five took to social media on the anniversary of his friend's death to share a special memory, writing, "The last chess game," as he shared a photo of them playing chess while smoking cigars. The duo appeared to be just starting their match.
"Today, it’s been 6 years since Franco left us, but he’s still with me every single day," Schwarzenegger wrote in tribute to Columbu.

On the day that Columbu died, Schwarzenegger wrote a post on Medium titled, "To My Best Friend."
In the emotional note, the Terminator star spoke of their close bond, writing, "From the minute we met in Munich, you were my partner in crime. We pushed each other, we competed with each other, and we laughed at every moment along the way."
"I am devastated today. But I am also so, so grateful for the 54 years of friendship and joy we shared," he went on, sharing some of their memories over the years as he revealed how much he would miss Columbu.
Schwarzenegger concluded his tribute with the earnest statement: "I love you Franco. I will always remember the joy you brought to my life, the advices you gave me, and the twinkle in your eye that never disappeared. You were my best friend."
