Sheriff’s deputies responding to a possible threat at Mt. Miguel High School in Spring Valley this week determined it to be unfounded, authorities said.
A school resource officer assigned to the campus was informed of a possible threat just after 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Gerardo Mateus of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. The threat was relayed to a third party and was believed to have been related to a physical altercation between students earlier in the day, Mateus said.
School resource officers, detectives and deputies assigned to the sheriff’s Rancho San Diego station and Lemon Grove substation were dispatched to the school to assist with the investigation.
Deputies identified a student involved in the incident, contacted the juvenile and parents and conducted a search for weapons at the juvenile’s home, according to Mateus. A search of the school was also conducted, but no weapons were found at either location.
No other suspects were identified and the campus was declared safe.
“The Sheriff’s Office and local school districts are committed to the safety of our students and community,” Mateus said. “Every threat is taken seriously and investigated.”
Students were reminded to report any threats or reports of violence to school resource officers, call the anonymous Crime Stoppers Students Speaking Out Tip Line at 858-322-6205, or the Sheriff’s Office at 858-868-3200.
