’90s Punk Rock Icons Troll Will Smith Over Alleged AI Concert Crowd

If you’ve been scrolling through social media lately, chances are you’ve seen the burning question: "Did Will Smith use AI for his concert crowd footage?" And with all the talk swirling, it’s no surprise that it’s sparked some hilarious reactions. But, in a twist no one saw coming, Green Day just jumped in with a little shade of their own.

On Thursday, August 28, the East Bay punk trio—consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool—took to TikTok with a clip from their recent concert in Lima, Peru, showing passionate fans packed against the stage barriers, singing along to their hit "Basket Case." The caption was pure gold: "Don't need A.I. for our crowds ?"

Green Day's post came just days after Smith's tour video went viral for all the wrong reasons, making their dig both timely and brutal. Fans immediately caught on to the band’s subtle burn, and reactions began flooding the comments section.

"Green day mocking will smith is not what I had on my 2025 bingo card ✌️?," one person wrote.

"THE CAPTION HAS ME DYING," another added.

"It's great to see a real crowd in action! Sometimes nothing beats that authentic energy," pointed out a third.

"??? Not Green Day savagely degrading Will Smith,” someone else said.

The drama began on August 12, when Smith, 56, posted a video on his social media accounts showcasing highlights from his Based on a True Story tour. The footage featured what appeared to be packed, enthusiastic crowds holding signs and cheering for the Grammy-winning artist.

But eagle-eyed viewers quickly spotted problems. According to multiple reports, the crowd footage contained telltale signs of AI manipulation: blurred faces, extra fingers, disproportionate limbs, and signs with garbled text. One particularly scrutinized sign read "LOV U FR6SH PRINCE" instead of "Fresh Prince."

The controversy took a more serious turn when SAG-AFTRA actor and producer Heather-Ashley Boyer revealed on Instagram that her face and body appeared in Smith's AI-enhanced video without her consent. "My face and body was used in this and I was definitely not there in real life," Boyer said. “It just straight up copied and pasted me.”

This development raises potential legal and ethical concerns about the unauthorized use of people's likenesses in AI-generated content.

Despite the mounting criticism and extensive media coverage, Smith and his representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
