Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at a Chula Vista Police checkpoint Friday, authorities said.
The checkpoint was held in the 600 block of E Street from 6 p.m. to midnight, according to Sgt. Anthony Molina of the Chula Vista Police Department.
Of the 1,260 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint, 804 vehicles were screened and four drivers were given field sobriety tests. Nine unlicensed or suspended license citations were issued, five vehicles were impounded and a total of 18 citations were issued, Molina said.
“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” Molina said. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
