ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The “How We Roc: Rochester Through Our Lenses” photography show held a reception Friday night to celebrate this year’s five local artists.
The event showcased a variety of styles, voices, and techniques, highlighting the unique perspectives of Rochester’s photographers.
Each year, the city picks up to five local photographers for the program “How We ROC.” When they are picked, photographers get media access to events sponsored by the city for a full year, an exhibit at the Link Gallery, and a $1,500 stipend.
One of the featured artists was News10NBC photographer Rajae “Onis” Barnes-Wright. He shared some advice for aspiring photographers.
“Don’t quit. It’s a very rough journey, because you have sleepless nights, you spend a lot of money, you invest in it a lot and sometimes you don’t see that pay back or that return on investment, but, years later, here it is,” Barnes-Wright said.
The photos are on display at City Hall’s Link Gallery on the first floor of City Hall Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
