A shooting inside a South Shore apartment building late Friday night left one woman dead and a second injured, authorities said.
The incident was reported at approximately 11:56 p.m. along South Essex Avenue near 77th Street. According to police, officers responded to a call of a person shot and found the entry door of an apartment building open.
Officers entered and found two people who had been shot, a 23-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman. The older woman sustained two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and one left leg. She was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead, police said. The 23-year-old woman was shot in the right leg and left knee and was hospitalized in fair condition.
As of Saturday morning, police were speaking with a person of interest.
Area Two detectives were investigating.
