CAIRO, Aug 29 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, with the Palestinian issue remaining at the heart of regional instability.
In an interview with Nile News on Friday, Abdelatty stated that Egypt is actively working to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank amid what he described as Israel’s “inhumane practices,” including collective punishment, systematic starvation, and daily military incursions.
He underlined the ongoing coordination between Egypt and Qatar to advance a comprehensive ceasefire agreement aimed at halting Israeli military operations in Gaza.
Abdelatty noted that his recent talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim focused on strengthening joint mediation efforts, conducted in close consultation with the United States.
He added that both countries are pressing Israel to accept a ceasefire proposal approved by Hamas and based on a framework put forward by US envoy Steve Witkoff.
The talks also addressed the latest regional developments, including the situations in Sudan, Libya, Syria, and Lebanon.
The minister affirmed the shared position of Cairo and Doha in condemning Israeli violations of Syrian and Lebanese sovereignty.
He further underscored their common stance on the Iranian nuclear issue, stressing the urgent need for a political settlement. (MENA)
