Gerwyn Price has withdrawn from the Flanders Darts Trophy after suffering a bizarre injury.

It has been confirmed that the Welshman will not be playing this weekend in Belgium due to an infected hand.

Price was scheduled to get his PDC European Tour tournament underway on Saturday in the second round of matches.

However, he has now pulled out and won’t be replaced.

And it comes as he suffers with an infected hand following a trip to the hospital earlier in the week.

PDC Darts announced on Friday: “Gerwyn Price has withdrawn from the Blåkläder Flanders Darts Trophy this weekend due to an infected hand.

“As Price withdrew after the tournament had begun, the winner of tonight’s contest between Ryan Joyce and Ricardo Pietreczko will receive a Bye straight into Round Three.”

Joyce beat Pietreczko 6-5 in their second-round clash and now he will be put straight through to the next stage.

He was originally scheduled to meet Price in the session beginning at 12pm on Saturday afternoon at the Antwerp Expo.

Price has also revealed the bad news on his own social media.

He posted on Instagram: “Unfortunately my hand isn’t ready for this weekend, I left it as late as possible to try and give the best chance possible but it wasn’t to be, hopefully will be ready for next weekend.

“Thanks for all the messages of support, means a lot.”

Price has suffered with hand injuries throughout his career, missing a Premier League event in 2022 following a fracture.

That fracture was to the hand that is now infected and forced him to take an unwanted trip to the hospital.

‘The Iceman’ also posted images of himself with a drip in his right arm with the caption reading: “Hopefully I’m fit for this weekend.”

But sadly, he has been forced to withdraw from the tournament.

Despite missing the Flanders Darts Trophy in Belgium, Price remains hopeful of featuring in next weekend’s event.

The Czech Darts Open begins on September 7.

    ‘In pain for hours’

Price isn’t the only casualty in the Flanders Darts Trophy line-up either, with Luke Littler suffering an emergency.

Littler, who is still going to compete this weekend, had to have a tooth removed on Thursday after being ‘in pain for hours’.

The reigning world champion posted on Instagram: “In pain for hours and hours, so had to get tooth out.

“Everyone knows I love Belgium and hopefully I can play my best darts.

“I don’t know how I’m going to be feeling in the morning whether I’m going to be in a little bit of pain.”

As things stand, Littler will be playing and is set to take on Dylan Slevin in the second round of the competition.
