Hockey’s Micah Parsons Trade? Kurvers Dates, Vanacker, Bedard, Primerano, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

It doesn’t matter what sport you care about, cover, exclusively think about or whatever. Last night, the sports world was consumed with conversation about one of the most significant trades in the history of the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys traded superstar defensive end Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Which, as a Bears fan, gets all of the expletive-filled memes and gifs fired off into the Twitterverse.

As many have happily pointed out overnight, Dallas fans have now seen both Luka Dončić and Parsons get traded out of town this calendar year. That’s a bad beat for any city, so I kinda feel for those fans (not really). That, of course, got the smart folks running the Stars’ social media to thinking, and…

Don’t worry y’all, Mikko Rantanen is a Dallas Star.

Okay, Stars admin. Well played. But… talk to me about Jason Robertson…

I saw a few accounts asking what the baseball equivalent would be to this trade, which got me wondering what the hockey equivalent would be. A superstar player in the middle of their prime going from a marquee big brand organization to a smaller market (albeit, in this case, also a traditional powerhouse) for a very good player and a couple picks. The Rantanen trade out of Colorado came to mind, but Rantanen did something in Denver Parsons did not in Dallas: he won a championship.

Unfortunately, I settled on the NHL trade comparable being the Blackhawks trading Artemi Panarin for Brandon Saad. Saad was a very good, serviceable player who filled a need in Chicago. Panarin was becoming a superstar at that point. Panarin couldn’t help the Blackhawks win a title. Saad’s skills, even if good, were never viewed as “good enough” to warrant a trade for a player of Panarin’s caliber. What do you think?

ICYMI: the Blackhawks’ under-22 collection of players was ranked No. 2 in the NHL by Corey Pronman at The Athletic yesterday. I broke it down and shared some thoughts. This morning I also wrapped up our month-long series looking at some of the Blackhawks’ all-time best in honor of their Centennial season. Here’s the list of those pieces: Franchise Rookie Records Calder Trophy Winners Four-Goal Periods for Blackhawks Skaters Hart Trophy Winners Franchise Goalie Records Vezina Trophy, Jennings Trophy Winners Norris Trophy Winners Franchise Scoring Records Art Ross Trophy Winners Franchise Assist Records Franchise Power Play, Penalty Kill Records Other Individual Award Winners The Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase, featuring games between prospects from the Blackhawks, Wild and Blues, will take place Sept. 13-14 in Minnesota this year. Still waiting for a roster, which could be interesting with the number of guys heading to Rockford this year. Speaking of prospects, can I interest you in a Marek Vanacker clip from camp with Brantford?

    — Brantford Bulldogs (@BulldogsOHL) August 28, 2025 Hey look at these two absolute superstars spending some time around cameras at the Hockey Canada Olympic Orientation camp. That’s Connor Bedard with Minnesota sophomore and Kelowna-raised Chloe Primerano. For those who aren’t familiar and might be wondering: she’s ridiculous. Primerano put up 31 points in 35 games for the Gophers as a 17-year-old freshman defenseman last year and played for Canada on the women’s national team at their World Championship. One might say this photo represents a lot of the future of Hockey Canada.

    — Hockey Canada (@HockeyCanada) August 27, 2025 A good read here on the goals and aspirations for USA Hockey in the upcoming Olympics here from Emily Kaplan at ESPN.

When NHL players return to the Olympics in February, the USA men will ice their best-ever roster. And they’re not shying away from the pressure. “The expectation is to win.”“It’s gold or nothing.” t.co/PnCJfCaU6C
