One of Chicago’s most iconic roads this weekend will shut down to cars and instead open up to thousands of cyclists as part of the popular “Bike the Drive” event.
The annual event, which benefits the Active Transportation Alliance, starts at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, according to organizers. Riders will begin in Grant Park and along DuSable Lake Shore Drive, from Hyde Park up to Edgewater.
The full, 30-mile loop extends from Bryn Mawr Ave. to 57th Street, officials said, with bikes taking over all of northbound and Southbound Lake Shore Drive. The event’s 15-mile route is half of the loop from Grant Park.
The event also means that DuSable Lake Shore Drive will close to cars beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday, with reopening set for between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.
