Joan Jett Calls on Domino’s to Make Major Menu Change

Joan Jettis teaming up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to call on Domino’s to “turn up the volume and finally add dairy-free cheese” to its menu in the U.S.

The “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” singer made the request prior to her Aug. 28 show with the Blackhearts supporting Billy Idol at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Mich. not far from Domino’s headquarters in Ann Arbor.

In a statement provided by PETA, Jett notes that the chain already serves vegan cheese in the U.K., Australia, Germany, Spain, and other territories.

“More and more folks are ditching dairy, as I did years ago, for their health, allergies, or because they don’t want to support cruelty,” Jett wrote in a letter to Domino’s CEO Russell Weiner. “Music brings people together, and so does pizza. Let’s make sure no one is left out when it’s time to share a pie.”

“I’ve played a lot of shows in Michigan, and one thing that always hits the spot is a good slice of pizza. That’s why my friends at PETA and I are asking Domino’s, while I’m right here in your own backyard, to turn up the volume and finally add dairy-free cheese to your U.S. menu,” reads Jett’s letter.

“Pizza should be for everyone. More and more folks are ditching dairy, as I did years ago, for their health, allergies, or because they don’t want to support cruelty. Vegan cheese today is gooey, melty, and every bit as satisfying. It deserves a place on Domino’s pizzas across America. Domino’s is already serving it in places like the UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, and beyond. Other U.S. pizza chains have it too, and fans are eating it up. It’s time for Domino’s in the U.S. to catch up and give people what they’re asking for,” she adds.

Jett’s letter is the latest salvo in PETA’s “Vegan, Cheese, Please” campaign aimed at Domino’s. As part of the effort, the organization has been offering free slices of dairy-free pizza to Domino’s customers across the country, including at an event on Aug. 27 at the University of Michigan.

PETA’s efforts have included a pair of billboards located near some Domino’s locations and the organization has also purchased stock in the company as a means to get a seat at the table with the pizza chain’s executives, attend yearly meetings and submit shareholder resolutions.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts tour with Billy Idol continues on Aug. 30 in Noblesville, Ind. and runs through Sept. 25 in Los Angeles.
