Multiple Midwest states have seen residents sickened by a salmonella outbreak linked to recalled eggs.
That outbreak has led to at least 95 confirmed cases of salmonella in 14 different states, including Iowa and Minnesota, according to the CDC.
While the majority of those cases were reported in California, four Minnesota residents and at least one Iowa resident have reportedly become ill with the bacterial infection in recent weeks.
Of the 95 cases, 18 have resulted in hospitalizations, though zero deaths have been reported so far.
The recall notice went out Wednesday for eggs produced by Country Eggs LLC out of Lucerne Valley, California. The company’s “large brown cage-free sunshine yolks” product, distributed under multiple labels, were recalled Wednesday due to potential salmonella contamination, according to the CDC.
The impacted eggs could bear the following product brand names:
-Nagatoshi Produce Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/16/25 No. CA 7695– Misuho Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/16/25 No. CA 7695 -Nijiya Markets Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/16/25 No. CA 7695
Anyone who purchased the impacted eggs is asked to either throw them away or to return them to their point of purchase. More information can be found on the FDA’s website.
While most individuals impacted by salmonella recover without treatment, children age five and younger, seniors 65 and older, or those with compromised immune systems are at greater risk of serious illness or even death.
Symptoms of salmonella typically appear anywhere from six hours to six days from the time of exposure, and can include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.
According to the CDC, if residents experience diarrhea and a fever above 102 degrees, bloody diarrhea, excessive vomiting, or dehydration, they should seek medical help immediately.
