After being diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, Boseman was 43 years old when he died after a private battle.
Boseman starred as king T'Challa, the Black Panther, alongside Bassett, who played his mother, Queen Ramonda. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the 2022 sequel to the 2018 film, was released without recasting Boseman's role.
The actress adds that she is grateful for his presence in her life. "His soul, his spirit [were] just divine," Bassett adds. "[I am] so blessed that fortune deigned our lives to cross."
As she gets older, the Waiting to Exhale star does her best to keep her own health at the forefront of her mind.
