ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies will be making sure children across Ontario County are safe while heading to school.
Starting on Sept. 2, additional sheriff’s deputies will follow school buses in all districts across the county to make sure drivers stop for buses while students get on. There will also be deputies posted in school zones to watch the speeds of cars traveling in the area.
The first violation for failing to stop for a school bus is five points on the offenders license and a fine ranging from $250-$400, the sheriff’s office says.
They also say speeding in a school zone start with three points on the offender’s license plus a minimum $90 fine for speeds one to ten miles over the posted school speed limit.
