GATES, N.Y. — The Gates Police Department will give an update on Thursday on the shooting outside the Amazon Fulfillment Center that killed a 24-year-old employee.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. on July 24. Gates Police say the suspect shot the victim, Markis Ortiz-Harris of Rochester, while he was sitting in his car waiting to start his shift. Ortiz-Harris died at the hospital.
Gates Police described the shooting as a “targeted altercation” and said the suspect fled the scene. An Amazon spokesperson said the company is “deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence” that killed a team member.
