Rochester set to receive larger slice of Batavia Downs profits

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The city of Rochester is set to receive larger contributions from Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel this year.

The company’s midyear report was presented by CEO and former Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. He said this year has been significantly more profitable than 2024 for the Genesee County venue.

A 5 percent tax rate reduction passed by the state in June contributed to the increased profitability. Brown said the more than $5 million in expected savings is projected to significantly increase contributions to cities and communities across Western New York, including Rochester.

“Our largest counties and cities, like Erie, Monroe, Buffalo, and Rochester, are each expected to receive 50% more than last year,” Brown said.

Brown also said that money is helping increase employee wages and reduce healthcare costs.
