A former Chicago Bears defensive back is in some legal trouble. Buster Skrine, who played cornerback for the Bears in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Roswell, Georgia, and was charged with 18 counts of federal fraud.
According to the Roswell Police Department, investigators found that Skrine had been targeting women through dating apps. He claimed he had financial issues, asked for money, and would pay them back through funds from the NFL annuity program. Skrine would then use the money to fund his lifestyle. Via Roswell PD, detectives identified three different victims that the former Bears cornerback had taken a combined $300,000 from.

Georgia wasn’t the only place in which Skrine was wanted for fraud, it turns out. In the statement from Roswell Police, they revealed that Skrine was also a wanted fugitive in Canada for multiple types of fraud. He was arrested in August of 2023 on fraud charges in Canada, was granted bail, and placed on GPS monitoring in April of 2024, which he then removed and fled back to the United States.
Canadian authorities and Roswell PD are working together to try and get to the bottom of the entirety of Skrine’s fraud schemes.
Skrine played 11 NFL seasons for five different teams, and last played in 2021 for the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans. He made north of $40 million in his NFL career.
